A mild drama occured yesterday when a 70-year-old man, Wasiu Oladeji, prayed a Customary Court sitting in Ibadan to dissolve his 25 years marriage to his wife Mrs. Latifat Oladeji (60) for failure to take adequate care of him and show him the deserved conjugal affection.
The wife, who agreed that she was no longer caring for her husband as before, told the court that she decided to do so because her 70-year-old husband was about to kill her with his frequent, s3xual demands. Oladeji, a Muslim mason, who converted to Christianity because of his wife, told the Grade C Customary court sitting in Lagelu, Iyana-Offa, Ibadan that his wife had colluded with the prophetess in charge of the church she attends to kill him because of a landed property he has. “I was a muslim before I converted to Christian through my wife, but I noticed that the prophetess who owns the church we attend and my wife have colluded together to kill me.
I have stopped having s3x with my wife since 2010 because she has spiritual powers which she told me that s3xual intercourse will affect, especially hindering her from attending her regular midnight meetings, Since 2010, my wife has not been taking good care of me again,” he said.
Though he confessed that he snatched the wife from another man 25 years ago, and did not pay any dowry on her, Oladeji told the court that the marriage had produced five children. “I’m tired of our marriage. My wife doesn’t listen to any of my instructions again. I told her to leave the church we attend but she refused to obey me. She stopped cooking for me; we don’t greet each other again in the house. Since when my wife has started going to that church, even when I fall sick, my wife won’t take care of me.
“In order to ensure that the marriage was peacefully dissolved, the septuagenarian emphatically told the court that, if he should die in the marriage, his blood would hang on the neck of the court.” Responding, Latifat, who is the wife, said she wanted the court to dissolve the marriage as she was tired of the cohabitation. She accused her husband to be a trouble maker who wants to kill her with his s3xual demands. “The allegation is true. I have exercised enough patience and my mind cannot condone it anymore.
He complains too much, practically about everything, despite the fact that he never paid any bride price on me. He always wants to have s3x with me. I am tired of it,” she told the court. In his ruling, the President of the court, Mr. Mattew Ogungbenle, accordingly dissolved the marriage on the ground of “lack of love.”
